Tennessee Tech Scholarship Information
October 27, 2023
TN Tech recently received a grant from the NSF for these scholarships. The program is called S-STEM: Onboarding Rural Area Mathematicians and Professionals in Science (ON-RAMPS).
We are recruiting academically promising students with financial need and an interest in pursuing one of the five STEM majors. This scholarship fulfills a student’s unmet need to the last dollar, and it will offer many academic supports and multi-layered mentoring, as well as laptops for each recipient.
The preferred criteria for participant selection are outlined below. Each graduating high school senior must have:
- A minimum of one letter of recommendation from a high school STEM teacher
- A short essay outlining their interest in STEM and desired career options
- A minimum high school unweighted GPA of 3.0
- A minimum ACT score of 24
- A transcript showing completion of at least two lab science courses and four math classes in high school
In addition to the above requirements, students must also demonstrate financial need as defined by the U.S. Department of Education rules for need-based Federal Financial Aid, which means that all applicants must complete a FAFSA application. Scholarship recipients must qualify as low-income as defined by Tennessee Tech, which means that recipients must be Pell-eligible. Also, the recipients must be citizens of the United States, nationals of the United States, aliens admitted as refugees under section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, or aliens lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence.
The priority deadline for consideration for this scholarship at Tech is December 15, 2023.
