Welcome: I am excited to have all of my students in class this year! Students will not be fluent in Spanish but will gain the basic knowledge of the Spanish culture and language.
Course Description: Spanish classes focuses on the four key areas of foreign language study: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The primary purpose of the course is to prepare students to be college-ready, well-rounded global citizens who can communicate effectively in Spanish and are aware of the cultural influences of the Spanish and Latino heritage at home and abroad.
Each unit contains a series of lessons that include introduction of content, virtual demonstration of that content, and repeated opportunity to practice that content, along with a quiz per lesson, exam per unit, and final exam at the end of the course.
Grading:
Grading scale: A- 100-90, B-89-80, C- 79-70, D 69-60, F -59-50
*It is the student and parent’s responsibility to check Powerschool weekly for grade, absence and tardy updates.
Class Guidelines:

- Pay close attention to details
- Ask questions if you don’t understand.
Most Important – your desktop should be clean, computers and cellphone should be kept underneath your desk, student must be completely prepared for class.
Non-negotiables:
Computers: Students may only take computers
out when given permission to do so.
From Student Laptop Contract: “Students should not use laptops to play games, browse the Internet, or chat with classmates for social purposes.” “Students who violate the contract will be subject to disciplinary action.”
Cell phones: Phones should be turned off and put away before 7:30 am until dismissal at the end of the day. Students must follow classroom/school procedures and will be held accountable for his/her actions. The steps outlined in the Student Handbook will be followed to handle disciplinary issues.
Tardies: Students must be in their assigned seats, when the bell rings. 1st tardy is a warning, 2nd tardy parents will be contacted, 3rd is a referral.
Restroom: Students may not go to the restroom within the first 15 minutes or the last 5 minutes of class with the exceptions of emergencies and special circumstances.
Eating/Drinking: No eating or drinking in class. Water in a plastic bottle (no glass) is allowed.
Late work: NOT accepted. Unless special circumstances with teacher’s approval.
Absence Work: is not late work
Students will need to check Google Classroom. You will have one day for each day you were out to submit your missing work.
* Test and projects are announced in advance. Extensions will not be given if a student is absent anytime in between or the day before due date, it is still due on the original date unless the absence is on the due date.
Cheating & Plagiarism:
Students copying assignments or cheating on test will not be given credit for their work. Parents and administration will be informed. Plagiarism (stealing the ideas or words of another and passing them off as one’s own) will not be tolerated and will result in a failing grade. Administration will be informed. In addition, the use of online translators without authorization is not acceptable and will also result in a 0 for the assignment.
Rules:
- Respect: Respect your-self, the teacher, each other and all property. This includes not hurting anyone mentally, physically or verbally.
- Be prepared and on time: Make sure that your are in the class room before the bell rings and make sure you have all of your materials each day
- Absolutely NO ELECTRONICS in class: This will include but is not limited to phones, ipad or ipods, headphones/ear pods etc.
- Stay on task during instruction: No cleaning out folders or doing anything not related to the lesson in hand, no socializing or walking around.
- No food or drinks: This includes and is not limited to gum and candy. Only water in a clear closed bottle. *Anyone with a medical note will be the only exception.
Procedures:
- All students will need to use the restroom before or after class. Exceptions will be made for emergencies and medical reasons.
- Students must sit in their assign seats
- No walking around during lesson (students with extra energy my use the pacing zone)
- Turn assignments in on time. All late work will be turned in for ½ credit
- All work will be turned in with no ridges, pencil or blue or black ink pen.
- It is student’s responsibility to make up any work missed. One day per absents will be given to turn in work
