Congratulations to NEHS for being a CMCSS Honor Roll School for the 2024-2025 school year! Our faculty and staff “Stepped Up to the Plate” to create a winning learning environment. This excitement has already been felt in the first semester of the 2025-2026 school year where we are continuing to “Carry the Torch”.
On December 18, the Tennessee Department of Education released the 2024-25 State Report Card, including school letter grades. The A-F school letter grades for Tennessee schools were implemented in 2023. School letter grades are calculated using several pieces of data, including student achievement and growth on standardized assessments, subgroup performance, and college and career readiness at the high school level.
Since implementation, CMCSS has not had any schools rated at the lowest level, an F. CMCSS has continued this trend in the third year of implementation and has continued to make gains across the district. For the second consecutive year, CMCSS has been designated an Advancing District, the second-highest designation, by the Tennessee Department of Education. Additional key data points from the 2024-2025 Report Card include:
- Over 70% of CMCSS’s schools earned an above-average A or B letter grade, with 90% earning a C or higher.
- Compared to the 2023-2024 report card, over 40% of CMCSS schools improved their letter grades by at least one level.
- From 2023 to 2025, CMCSS increased the percentage of schools earning an A or B by 22 points and decreased the number of schools earning a D by 18 points.
- For the third consecutive year since the TN State Report Card was implemented, there are no CMCSS schools with F grades.
“These outcomes are a direct result of the hard work and dedication of our students, educators, and school leaders in partnership with families and our entire community,” said Dr. Jean Luna-Vedder, Director of Schools. “We are continuing to see progress across the system, not in isolated pockets, and that’s a powerful indicator of lasting improvement. Heading into my fourth year as Director of Schools, I remain focused on my priority from day one for CMCSS to be the best school system in the state for students, families, and employees.”

As shared earlier this school year, the Tennessee Department of Education released the 2024-2025 TVAAS scores in August. For the second consecutive year, CMCSS achieved an impressive system-wide composite student growth score of 5, the highest score possible. This marks the first time in nearly a decade that CMCSS has achieved the highest score two years in a row. Additionally, from the 2023-2024 school year, CMCSS has raised its literacy and numeracy growth scores by two levels. See below for additional highlights from this data:
- CMCSS had the highest percentage of schools scoring 3, 4, or 5 since the 2016-17 school year.
- CMCSS had the lowest percentage of schools scoring 1 or 2 since the 2016-17 school year.
- Fifty percent of middle schools earned a 5 for the first time since the 2014-15 school year.
- For the second consecutive year, 88% middle schools scored a 3, 4, or 5, which remains the record.
